The country exported nearly 32,000 tons of scrap in February 2022, significantly down by 15.7% over the prior month, but higher by 36% from the prior year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest statistics published by the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) suggests significant decline in exports and imports of scrap during the month of February this year.

The country exported nearly 32,000 tons of scrap in February 2022, significantly down by 15.7% over the prior month, but higher by 36% from the prior year. The cumulative exports totalled 70,400 tonnes until February this year, higher by 65% from the corresponding two-month period in 2021. The largest export destinations were Bangladesh, India and Belgium. Meantime, scrap imports by the country totalled around 2,500 tons in Feb ’22, falling significantly by 96% over the previous year.

The China Customs data indicate that the country imported nearly 28,000 tons of scrap during the initial two months of the current year. The imports during February 2022 surged higher significantly by 158% to total around 14,700 tons.

Taiwan imported around 458,800 tons of ferrous scrap in the first two months of the year, marginally down by 0.9% from the imports during Jan-Feb ’21. The largest source of import was the U.S., followed by Japan.

Also, Pakistan’s scrap imports dropped by 7.4% year-on-year to total around 350,200 tons in February this year, said the statistics from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
