West Norwood Metal Recycling Centre Encounters Intense Local Opposition

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The planning application submitted to Lambeth Council towards construction of a metal recycling facility in West Norwood has witnessed firm opposition. The plan to build the facility at the end of Windsor Grove was proposed by London-headquartered Southwark Metals.

The locals raised opposition to the project, saying that it will put school children at risk and contribute to air pollution in the region. Incidentally, there are two schools- Kingswood Primary and Parks Campus in its close proximity. The facility will result in a large number of heavy goods vehicles commuting, which in turn would pose serious risks to pedestrians and cyclists.

Apart from creating traffic jams at the already congested roads, the facility is unlikely to bring any material advantages to the local community, they argued. In addition, they alleged that the proposed facility will increase the industrial footprint in a residential area. The metal works could be ideally select rural area for their operations. This will have lesser impact on lives and health of people.

Meantime, the company refuted the charges saying that the proposed site would be fully enclosed, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, so as to prevent any sort of pollution. Moreover, it will make significant contribution in dealing with the waste in the region.
