Scrap Metal Pile Caught Fire At Recycling Facility: Tampa Fire Rescue

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Firefighters put out a commercial trash fire Thursday afternoon at a recycled metals facility in Drew Park, not far from the Tampa International Airport, Tampa Fire Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

The blaze broke out at the site, which is in the 4800 block of North Hesperides Street, around 3:20 p.m.

The engines to first arrive at the scene found a large scrap metal pile fully engulfed in flames and smoke, TFR said.

Firefighters used both ground and aerial operations to attack the fire, which was under control within 50 minutes.

Facility workers helped by moving scrap piles with heavy equipment, allowing firefighters to reach and extinguish hidden hotspots, the agency said.

There were no injuries.
