SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest statistics published by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) suggests that China’s stainless steel scrap imports totalled approximately 37,700 tons in April this year, falling further by 3.1% over the previous month. The cumulative stainless steel scrap imports by the country totalled around 141,000 tons.
Also, the country’s aluminum scrap imports totalled around 129,000 tons in April, down by 12.5% from the previous month.
According to Customs statistics, Japan’s scrap exports totalled 2.24 million tons in the initial four-month period of the current year, rising by 6.8% compared to the corresponding period a year before. The largest export destination was South Korea, which imported 962,000 tons of scrap from Japan. The other major importers were Vietnam (576,000 tons) and Taiwan (282,000 tons). The country’s scrap exports dropped by 15.7% year-on-year to total around 560,000 tons in April 2023.
The data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS) indicates that the country imported around 87,000 tons of scrap in April, down by 36% over the prior month. The scrap imports during the month were valued at around US$51 million in April.
