Steel Scrap Prices: Weekly Market Report – August 29, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):The weekly analysis of the Scrap Monster Price Index data suggests that steel scrap prices in all regions witnessed mixed trend during the past one week period from August 22 to 28, 2025.

North America Prices

The #1 Bundle and #1 Busheling prices increased by 1.25% and 1.19% respectively over the week.

The price movement in #1 Bundle over the week is depicted below:

HMS 80/20 and Sheet Metal prices were flat on the Index during the week.

Shredded Auto Scrap prices witnessed no change from previous week’s level of $370 per MT.

In the meantime, #1 HMS and Structural Steel prices recorded decline by 1.56% each week-on-week.

USA East Coast Prices

The price of #1 Bundle and #1 Busheling recorded increase on the Index.

The scrap commodities to witness no variation in price over the prior week were HMS 80/20, Sheet Metal and Shredded Auto Scrap.

#1HMS scrap prices were down by 1.56% over the week, falling from $320 per MT to $315 per MT.

Also, the Structural Steel prices were down by 1.56% on the Index.

USA Midwest Prices

The region reported mixed price trend during the week ended August 28, 2025.

#1 Bundle and #1 Busheling prices were flat.

However, no variation in price was recorded in HMS 80/20, Sheet Metal and Shredded Auto Scrap.

The below chart represents the variation in prices of Shredded Auto scrap over the previous week:

In contrast, #1 HMS and Structural Steel prices dropped when matched with the previous week’s price.

USA West Coast Prices

The price of #1 Bundle and #1 Busheling recorded increase on the Index.

The scrap commodities to witness no variation in price over the prior week were HMS 80/20, Sheet Metal and Shredded Auto Scrap.

#1HMS scrap prices were down by 1.56% over the week, falling from $320 per MT to $315 per MT.

Also, the Structural Steel prices were down by 1.56% on the Index.

China Prices

The Chinese steel scrap market remained flat during the week. The #1 HMS prices witnessed no change from the prior week. Also Cast Iron scrap prices held steady at CNY 1,730 per MT, as displayed in the below chart.

Europe Prices

The prices of all steel scrap commodities such as #1 HMS, Cast Iron Scrap, Grade 1 Old Steel, Grade 2 Old Steel, Grade OA Structural Plate, Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap and Structural Steel held steady when compared with the week before.

The price variation in Sheet Metal scrap over the one-week period from August 22 to 28, 2025 is provided in the below chart.

LME Steel Market Update

The LME Steel Scrap CFR Turkey (Platts) Month 2 Closing price as of August 28, 2025 stood at $345.50 per tonne.

The LME Steel Rebar FOB Turkey (Platts) Month 2 Contract closed at $540.00 per tonne, slightly lower when compared with $546.00 per tonne during week prior to that.

In the meantime, LME Steel Scrap CFR India (Platts) Month 2 prices as of August 28, 2025 closed at $367.50 per tonne.
