Manitowoc-Based Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry Acquires Manufacturer in Iowa

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry is expanding with the acquisition of an Iowa-based metal castings manufacturer.

Headquartered in Manitowoc, WAF makes aluminum and copper-based alloy castings for a variety of industries. Officials announced Wednesday that WAF has acquired ATEK Metal Technologies of New Hampton, Iowa.

WAF CEO Sachin Shivaram said in a news release the acquisition is exciting and also a bit nostalgic.

 ATEK specializes in low-pressure permanent mold castings and tilt-pour molding. It has 220 employees.

“Making the decision to sell ATEK was not an easy one but, after meeting with WAF leadership, it was clear that the company and team would be in good hands. We couldn’t ask for a better company to take ownership,” said Mark Osmanski, CEO of ATEK Companies.

WAF says the acquisition of ATEK will expand their current operations and deepen the company’s reach into other markets, such as motorsports, transportation, agriculture and the medical industry.

ATEK is WAF’s fourth acquisition in recent years. It previously acquired DEE, Inc. in Crookston, Minnesota; Manitowoc Pattern & Machining in Manitowoc; and Wabash Castings in Wabash, Indiana.

“Even as we grow outside of the state of Wisconsin, our beating heart remains in Manitowoc,” Shivaram said.

WAF is currently in the middle of a $25 million expansion in Manitowoc to add capacity in gravity pour permanent mold casting, 3D sand printing and low-pressure permanent mold casting.
