According to Andrew Horahan, Senior Vice President of Western Operations at Interfor, the mandatory curtailment of forest harvesting activities by the provincial administration on account of rising wildfires is likely to impact the company’s operations in the forthcoming weeks. The company is actively monitoring the situation, lending all possible support to firefighting activities. The company has already allotted 230 company as well as contractor staff and over 90 pieces of heavy equipment owned by its contractors to assist B.C. Wildfire Service in their efforts, he added.
Interfor predicts curtailment of at least 50 million board feet of production across its B.C. Interior operations during the current month. There are possibilities of further downtime in September, depending upon evolving weather conditions. Incidentally, the regional operations had accounted for 26% of the company’s total production over the next twelve month period.
