Interfor Announced Acquisition of Georgia-Pacific Sawmills

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Interfor Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement with Georgia-Pacific Wood Products LLC and GP Wood Products LLC to acquire four of the latter’s U.S. sawmills.

The sawmill operations located in Bay Springs, MS, Fayette, AL, DeQuincy, LA and Philomath, OR will be purchased for a total price of $375 million. The deal will be funded entirely from cash on hand. The acquired sawmill operations are estimated to have a combined lumber production capacity of 720 million board feet per annum, the company press release noted.

The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive to Interfor’s earnings and is expected to provide attractive returns in both the near-term and over the long-term. The acquired sawmill operations are complementary to Interfor’s strong platform in the US South and the US Northwest regions. It will support Interfor’s accelerated growth in the region.

As per estimates, the acquisition of the facilities will boost Interfor’s total annual lumber production capacity to 3.9 billion board feet. It will result in growth of the company’s US South production capacity by 500 million board feet to 2.2 billion board feet. The production capacity in the US Northwest will grow by 220 million to 770 million board feet. The U.S. South’s share of Interfor’s total production capacity will be lifted to 57%.
