ILZSG Posted Surplus World Lead Market in H1 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to the most recent issue of the International Lead and Zinc Study Group's (ILZSG) monthly "Lead and Zinc Statistics Bulletin," the world's supply of refined lead metal exceeded demand by 21kt in the first six-month period of 2025. According to a recent press release, the overall reported lead inventory levels rose by 26,000 tonnes during this period.

Global lead mine production increased by a modest 0.9% between January and June of this year. Increased production in Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, India and Peru was the primary cause of this. However, these were partially balanced by reductions in Brazil, Kazakhstan and the U.S.

During this period, Canada, China, India, Mexico and Sweden reported increase in refined lead metal production, resulting in 1.4% jump in overall output, which has been slightly offset by decreases in Japan, Kazakhstan, and the United Kingdom.

The use of refined lead metal increased by 2.3%, mostly due to increases in the Philippines, Taiwan, the U.S. and Vietnam. Demand increased in Europe as well, primarily due to growth in the Czech Republic, France and Germany. On the other hand, the usage stood lower year-on-year in Japan and India.

The global monthly lead mine production in June of this year was 395.9 kt, according to the ILZSG monthly numbers. Globally, 1,078.1 kt of refined lead metal was produced during the month, compared to 1,078.6 kt of lead metal used.
