The seminar highlighted the need to promote circular economy principles and practices in order to reduce leakage of plastics to the environment. It also emphasized on the need to ensure implementation of effective plastic waste management strategies and further strengthening of plastics value chains.

Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager, LASEPA noted that the treatment of waste plastics according to globally approved standards will reduce the negative impacts of climate change and other environmental problems. The government has been creating various policies aimed at achieving a sustainable environment, Ajayi added.

Oluyomi Banjo, UNIDO National Programme Coordinator, Environment and Energy called upon the manufacturers to be more innovative in producing the right materials. More awareness needs to be created on the responsible use of plastic waste, Banjo said.
