Kruger Signs New Lease with the National Capital Commission for Gatineau Paper Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Kruger Company has signed a new lease with the National Capital Commission for running the operations at its Gatineau, Quebec paper mill. The current lease, expiring in 2028, has now been extended for another 25 years, thereby securing the site until 2053.

As part of the new lease agreement, Kruger will create a new public waterfront park at an expense of approximately $6 million. The private parking lot near the Ottawa River will be converted into a public park.

Hull-Wright City Councilor Cédric Tessier stated that although the location of the Kruger tissue plant is not ideal to follow the city’s downtown revitalization plan, it is considered to be a key contributor to the city’s economy as a whole. The proposed park will further enhance people’s accessibility to the waterfront, Tessier said.

Earlier in May this year, the company had commenced construction of its new tissue plant, adjacent to its existing paper mill along the Saint-François River in the borough of Brompton, Sherbrooke, Quebec.
