Kruger Begins Construction of Sherbrooke Tissue Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  KP Tissue Inc. and Kruger Products L.P. announced that it has commenced construction of its new tissue plant in Sherbrooke.

The new plant is located on a site adjacent to existing Kruger paper mill along the Saint-François River in the borough of Brompton, Sherbrooke, Quebec. Kruger plans to invest $575 million in the new plant, which is expected to create nearly 180 jobs in Estrie. In addition, the construction phase is likely to create around 1,700 direct and indirect jobs. The construction of the plant is scheduled to get completed by 2021.

The official groundbreaking ceremony held at the plant premises was attended by several dignitaries including Pierre Fitzgibbon, Québec Minister of Economy and Innovation; Geneviève Hébert, Member for Saint-François and Deputy Government Whip;Steve Lussier, Mayor of Sherbrooke; Nicole Bergeron, Chair of the City of Sherbrooke’s Executive Committee and Councillor for the Brompton Borough; Dino Bianco, Chief Executive Officer, Kruger Products; and Joseph Kruger II, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Kruger Inc.

The plant will include a through-air-dry (TAD) tissue machine and several converting lines. The state-of-the-art ultra-premium tissue manufacturing technology at the plant will ensure reduced use of fibre to generate bulkier, stronger, softer and more absorbent ultra-premium tissue products.
