SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kruger Products announced official inauguration of its Sherbrooke Tissue Plant, commissioned earlier in 2021. The company also broke ground on an expansion project adjacent to the plant, where another tissue plant will be constructed by 2024.
The new project will feature Canada’s most advanced and best-performing TAD tissue machine. The plant will be built at an investment of $351.5 million. It will help the company achieve its vision to make Sherbrooke a major premium-quality tissue product manufacturing hub in North America. Kruger has invested approximately $1 billion in the Estrie region since 2018.
The Sherbrooke plant in the Brompton Borough had generated nearly 1,700 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase. The company had completed the construction on time and on budget in early 2021, despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, Kruger had also invested $25 million towards implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) functions at the plant.
The expansion project comprises construction of a double-wide tissue machine featuring LDC technology, as well as the installation of two additional converting lines. The project is expected to create additional 141 direct jobs and will be completed over the next two years.
