Europe is seeking ways to isolate Russia, by stemming the export of timber and wood products, which Russia relies upon heavily. The EU had been the major market for timber and wood products export from Russian Federation, which had totalled $13.9 billion during the previous year.
The appeal calls on the EU and other governments to extend sanctions of all types to Russian timber and wood products. Also, it expressed concerns over the darkly opportunistic reaction by some forest industries to remove forest protection measures and facilitate increased logging.
