IP Announced Consolidation of Rio Grande Valley Operations

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Rio Grande Valley operations of International Paper (IP) will be consolidated. The goal of the move is to better prepare the business to serve its clients in the area.

By pledging to make strategic investments to turn the existing sheet facility in Edinburg, Texas, into a warehouse, the corporation reaffirmed its dedication to the Rio Grande Valley. To increase its capabilities, it will also make investments in its current McAllen, Texas location.

The company's other plans include closing its box and sheet plants in Edinburg, Texas, and moving its activities from Reynosa, Mexico to a new, more competent, more sophisticated facility that is now being built in Reynosa.

Natural attrition, retirements, and available opportunities at other IP plants will all help to lessen the effects of the aforementioned changes on the impacted personnel. It promised to help its staff as much as possible during the transition.

"The decision to stop operations at its two Edinburg facilities while investing in McAllen and Reynosa allows the company to focus its efforts, provide excellent customer experiences, and maintain a competitive cost structure to position it for profitable growth," said Tom Hamic, Executive Vice President and President of Packaging Solutions North America, International Paper.
