SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The third edition of the E-Waste Academy for Managers (EWAM) was held online from 23rd to 26th May, 2022. The four-day event was jointly organized by the United Nations Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations University (UNU) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The event was attended by nearly 350 participants, including international experts.
The event focused on exploring how to boost decision-making for sustainable e-waste management systems while promoting cooperation at the national, regional and global levels. The event shared information, knowledge and experience related to circular electronics and sustainable e-waste management and recycling.
The global forum brought together stakeholders from across the world, who is already interested in the Circular Electronics paradigm. It presented a series of panel discussions and group sessions, providing deep insights on informal groups operating in the sector and transboundary movements of electronic waste and collection mechanisms.
The meeting highlighted that majority of the unsafely managed electronic waste containing valuable recoverable materials present a big opportunity for implementing circular electronics.
