Hydro Reached Agreement on Supply of Low-Carbon Recycled Aluminum Extrusions

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hydro Extrusions announced that it has reached an agreement with UK-based Watt Electric Vehicles (WEVC) towards delivery of recycled, low-carbon aluminum extrusions to be used in the production of Watt’s upcoming models of electric commercial vehicles.

Hydro will deliver seven different varieties of aluminum extrusions which in turn will be used in WEVC’s electric vehicle connection system, thus leading to significant reduction in vehicle weight.

Watt plans to commence production of eCV1 light commercial vehicle by 2025. This will be the first such vehicle in the category to make exclusive use of recycled, low-carbon aluminum in its chassis. The embedded carbon footprint of the vehicle is expected to be 50% lower than its competitors.

Hydro Tibshelf will be responsible to supply WEVC with recycled, low-carbon aluminum, which will contain a minimum of 35% post-consumer aluminum scrap.

Paul Warton, Executive Vice President of Hydro Extrusions noted that the development is part of company’s efforts to partner with innovative, forward leaning companies so as to help them achieve their sustainability goals. The supplied parts will help WEVC to significantly reduce the embedded carbon footprint of the vehicle, he added.
