SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hydro declared its intention to shut down the UK's Birtley extrusion factory. The company attributed the shutdown to exceptionally difficult market conditions. After consulting with workers and their representatives, the plant will close by the end of this month. The shutdown is expected to affect about 100 employees.
