SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Hydro aluminum plant in Commerce, Texas, the company’s first plant in the U.S. has been certified by DNV-GL to produce Hydro CIRCAL- a low-carbon recycled aluminum product containing at least 75% end of life scrap. The certificate was issued on 18th May, 2022.
Dan Luckett, Plant Manager at Hydro Commerce said that it is a great recognition of the work being done by the team at Commerce and in North America. The company looks forward to partnering with aluminum extrusion companies and leading OEMs to further expand the production of automotive products with Hydro CIRCAL at Commerce. Initially, the plant expects to produce around 4,000 tonnes of Hydro CIRCAL per annum, Luckett noted.
The milestone achievement will help Hydro to position itself in its journey to become the leading producer of low-carbon recycled aluminum in North America. Incidentally, the company targets to double its recycling of post-consumer scrap by 2025, a move that will lead to significant reduction in carbon footprint.
Hydro said that production at the state-of-the-art aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis, Michigan is expected to commence in 2023. Upon achieving full production, the plant will be capable to produce nearly 120,000 metric tonnes of recycled aluminum extrusion ingot per annum.
