Hoffman Neopac Partners with Saperatec on Aluminum Recycling Project

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Thun, Switzerland-headquartered Hoffman Neopac announced that it has signed a recycling partnership agreement with Saperatec- the first industrial recycling plant for aluminum laminate composites. As per the agreement, Neopac will supply its production waste to Saperatec by mid-2023, when the plant is expected to become operational.

As per rough estimates, European region produces nearly 11.5 billion tons of plastic, aluminum and laminate tubes every year. Out of this, approximately laminate tubes account for 38% of this waste. The existing recycling facilities are not capable of industrially separating and recycling them. Instead, they are incinerated or dumped into landfills.

The Saperatec recycling plant employs latest technology to break down multilayer composite materials into their individual materials. It uses a special washing technique to separate plastic and aluminum layers without the need for dissolving them. After the separation process, the materials are sorted into polyethylene and aluminum, which could then be recycled into highest quality materials.

In addition, the process will also be capable of recycling composite materials made of aluminum and plastic.
