Green Bay Packaging Breaks Ground on New Paper Mill in Wisconsin

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Green Bay Packaging Inc. formally broke ground on its new state-of the-art paper mill in Wisconsin. The company had recently announced plans to replace its over seven-decade old Green Bay Paper Mill. The $580 million investment is considered to be one of the biggest investments in the history of Brown County. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, city of Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt and Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach.

The construction works are likely to extend to more than two years. Excavation is expected to begin this fall, with new concrete foundations scheduled to be poured in March next year. The plant will be fully operational in the spring of 2021. Neenah-based Miron Construction has been appointed as the general contractor to construct the mill. The company has also entered into contract with Voith towards supply and installation of the new modern paper machine. According to company press release, the existing mill will continue to operate at full capacity all through the construction process.

Will Cress, President and CEO, Green Bay Packaging stated that the company is extremely proud to officially begin construction of its new facility, which is likely to have profound impact on Northeast Wisconsin’s economy. The new mill will preserve more than 1,100 company jobs across Brown County, by significantly increasing its production capabilities and quality of products.
