York police warn residents about gold bar courier scam targeting life savings

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  It's a scam that has cost Mainers millions of dollars, and a local police department is warning the community about it.

Criminals are convincing people to withdraw their life savings, buy gold bars, and hand them over to a courier.

The York Police Department wants people to remember: government agencies will never contact you to pick up or store your gold, nor will they pressure or threaten you into buying, receiving, or delivering gold on their behalf.

Beware of individuals posing as financial or investment advisors who urge you to buy gold and claim they will store it safely for you.

This is a scam.

Once gold is handed over, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to recover.

When in doubt, it is recommended you hang up or ignore, and call law enforcement directly.
