First Commercialized Waste Plastic Recycling Facility Coming Up in Turkey

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Biotrend Energy announced that it will use Honeywell’s UpCycle Process Technology in its proposed advanced plastics recycling plant in Turkey. It would be the first commercialized waste plastics recycling facility in Turkey to use Honeywell technology.

The plant will have a processing capacity of up to 30,000 metric tons of mixed plastic waste per year. It will convert mixed waste plastics into recycled polymer feedstock. Honeywell will provide all related engineering and technical services in building the plant. Furthermore, the two companies expressed interest to collaborate on similar waste plastic recycling facilities in future.

The current Biotrend technology recovers only a low percentage of mechanically recycled materials. Also, certain types of plastic waste cannot be recycled mechanically. The Honeywell UpCycle Process Technology, which uses chemical recycling, will be capable of processing a wider range of waste plastics, enabling the development of a circular economy for plastics. The latest technology will help Biotrend Energy to tackle the challenge of plastic waste in Turkey.

Biotrend Energy processes 4,500,000 tons of waste per year across its 18 Turkish facilities.
