An overnight fire tore through the largest recycling plant in the state.

DEVENS, Mass. (MyFoxBoston) -- An overnight fire tore through the largest recycling plant in the state.

Crews were called to the massive fire on Independence Drive just after 9 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters from several neighboring communities came to the scene but were ordered out of the building because of safety concerns, the Lowell Sun reports.

Officials say that the remote location of the recycling center made it a difficult fire to put out.

The Devens Recycling Center is 900,000 square foot facility located on 11 acres. It was founded in 2006 and opened in 2007.
