FIJI Water Pledges to Boost Recycled Content in PET Bottles

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Bottle water major FIJI Water announced ambitious plans to boost recycled content in PET Bottles, as part of its long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability. Accordingly, the company targets to make all of its plastic bottles from 100% recycled plastic (rPET) by 2025. Also, it targets to have 20% rPET containers by 2020.

The company announced a series of new packaging innovations and plastic reduction strategies. FIJI Water will launch a new 2.5-gallon packaging option for the refrigerator or counter and a 5-gallon option for hot and cold water dispenser. These will serve as alternatives to single-use bottles and will have less plastic content in them. Further, the company plans to expand its plastic reduction efforts across the entire line of products.

Elizabeth Stephenson, president of FIJI Water stated that the transition to 100% rPET is the cornerstone of the company’s comprehensive approach to sustainability. The company is dedicated to take steps to protect the environment today and for generations to come. The increased use of recycled plastics will promote circular economy and encourage recycling and reuse, Elizabeth added.

FIJI Water’s parent company had pledged $750 million in September this year to Caltech institute to fund efforts to fight climate change. A portion of that will focus on decomposable plastics.
