Europe's Crude Steel Production Dropped

The cumulative steel output from January to August this year too reported slight decline by 2.9% in comparison with the previous year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The European crude steel production reported nominal decline during the month of August this year. The domestic regional production amounted to 11.454 million tonnes (Mt) during the month, as reported by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). This is marginally down by 2.2% when matched with the output of 11.714 Mt achieved by the region during the same month a year before.

The top five steel producing countries in the region were Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Poland. The combined production by the above five countries totalled 6.941 Mt, accounting for more than 60% of the total regional output. Germany topped the list, producing 3.266 Mt of steel during the month. The German production was up marginally by 0.8% over the previous year. The Spanish steel production dropped by 4.6% during the month. The French production totalled 1.050 Mt, surging higher by 11.2% year-on-year. The Italian steel output tumbled by nearly 27%. The output by Poland too was down by 15.6% from the year-ago period.

The cumulative steel output from January to August this year too reported slight decline by 2.9% in comparison with the previous year. The EU-28 crude steel production totalled 109.091 Mt until August this year. Over the corresponding eight-month period in 2018, Croatian output declined the most. The country’s output slumped by 17.4%, when matched with the previous year. On the other hand, Austrian output witnessed highest year-on-year growth of 14.4%.

The world crude steel production totaled 156.038 million tonnes (Mt) in Aug '19.
