ERI Adopts BAN’s New Electronics Scrap Tracking System

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): ERI- The nation’s leading e-waste recycling service provider has become the industry’s first company to adopt the newly developed EarthEye tracking system developed by Basel Action Network (BAN). The pioneering technology offers real-time logistics monitoring, which in turn will help to identify the plight of discarded electronic devices. Earlier investigations conducted by BAN using GPS trackers had revealed that scrap electronics were illegally exported to developing countries for processing.

According to BAN, discarded electronics faces serious risk of ending up in wrong places. Devices that land up in such destinations are mined by cyber criminals for personal and business data. As per estimates, nearly 48% of hard disks and solid-state drives on computers old online contain private residual data.

EarthEye is the end result of research and developments carried out by BAN for more than ten years. EarthEye is far more than a simple GPS tracker. It is a comprehensive logistics monitoring system, designed for use by major corporations, governments and e-Stewards certified recyclers. The user-friendly system is capable of reliably monitoring the international e-waste industry. The precise GPS location data, sent every 24 hours, provides assurance to clients that the disposed of electronics are tracked to ensure that it ends up in right places. In addition, the clients are also provided with an annual report showing all tracked activity.
