EMR Scrap Metal Plant Gets its License Renewed

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European Metal Recycling Limited (EMR) announced that it has received approval for its application to renew license for its scrap metal operations facility at Station Road, East Tilbury and 13-19 Berth, Tilbury Docks.

There were apprehensions that the scrap metal dealer’s licence renewal application was likely to be rejected, as it had already been fined £400,000 for illegally dumping controlled waste in Stowey Quarry, Somerset in May 2016. The company was served a confiscation order of £32,958 in response to the act. However, the company was able to win a reprieve after convincing the licensing sub-committee members that the offence had been an error.

The EMR representative notified that the judge who sentenced the company had stated in his sentencing comments that the prosecution that was referred to in 2021 arose as a result of a mistake and that it wasn’t a deliberate act. The committee, while granting license, observed that the offense was an administrative error.

The company’s excellent compliance record prior to this prosecution also helped them achieve approval for its license renewal application. Also, since the occurrence of the incident in 2016, the company has made significant improvements to its policies and procedures in order to ensure that such incidents do not repeat in future.
