E-cycleNYC Program Leads New York’s Fight Against Electronic Waste

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The e-cycleNYC initiative in New York City provides a practical way for citizens to recycle their electronic waste and get rid of their unwanted gadgets. It should be mentioned that dumping these things in the trash is illegal according to state legislation.

Residential buildings with ten or more units are eligible for free participation in the e-cycleNYC program. The service must be signed up for by the building managers or owners via the Department of Sanitation. The building will receive collection containers upon enrollment. The Department will arrange for a pickup once the bins are filled.

By providing evidence of residency, tenants of smaller buildings can drop off their electrical equipment at the NYC Special Waste Drop-Off locations in their respective boroughs. E-waste and other products are also collected during seasonal SAFE Disposal Events. Additionally, a variety of electronic waste is accepted for responsible recycling and safe disposal at free recycling events held by non-profit organizations around the boroughs, frequently in public areas like parks or community centers.

Take-back programs provided by shops like Best Buy and Staples as well as manufacturers like Apple, Dell, and HP are another great option to recycle devices.
