DS Smith Welcomes CPI-Led New Recycling Regulations at Workplaces

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The new workplace recycling laws that went into force in England on March 31, 2025, were warmly received by DS Smith, a significant player in the European packaging industry. The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI), the Environment Agency, and the UK Government worked together to create the new regulations, which are intended to improve environmental sustainability and streamline recycling procedures.

Workplaces with ten or more employees must make sure that dry recyclable items, such as plastic, metal, glass, and—most importantly—paper and card, are properly collected, per new legislation. A transition period until March 31, 2027, has been allowed to smaller businesses with fewer than ten employees so they can comply with the laws.

Paper and cards must be collected separately from other recyclables in accordance with the CPI mandate. The purpose of the new rule is to increase recycling efficiency, lower contamination, and improve the quality of recyclable materials. The sole exception will be in cases where co-collection has been authorized by the garbage collector following a comprehensive evaluation.

According to DS Smith, the recently implemented modifications would lessen the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and help to address stagnant recycling rates.
