DS Smith Shared Robust Growth Forecast in OCC Demand

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European packaging leader DS Smith shared forecasts for growth in corrugated packaging demand. The company also unveiled plans for further expansion in North American market. Furthermore, the company highlighted the impacts of Chinese import ban on the global OCC market.

According to Toby Earnest, director of recycling at DS Smith North America, the pandemic had led to creation of volatility in the global recovered fibers market. Several sectors including industrial, commercial, hospitality and restaurant were the most badly hit. The pandemic-related uncertainties accelerated the shift to on-line shopping, which in turn has resulted in ending up of such packages in residential sector. The company’s stepped-up recycling operations in North American plants have captured a portion of those recovered fibers.
