DS Smith Outclassed Competitors in Latest Sustainability Ranking

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The European packaging major DS Smith announced that the MSCI increased its ranking in the Sustainability Index. The ranking upgrade demonstrates the efforts undertaken by the company to conform to highest sustainability standards, through promotion of circular economy.

According to company press release, the MSCI increased its ranking from ‘AA’ to ‘A’ in the ACWI Index. DS Smith has outperformed its competitors within the Containers & Packaging sector. MSCI rankings, ranging from ‘AAA’ to ‘CCC’are based on information gathered from its reporting process. The MSCI highlighted the proactive steps taken by the company in sustainably managing its waste through new technology and innovations.

Commenting on the development, Wouter van Tol, Head of Sustainability, Community and Government Affairs, DS Smith noted that the recent upgrade recognizes the marked improvement across a range of critical areas of environmental, social and governance (ESG). The company is committed to make further investments in vital areas, including carbon reduction and water efficiency.

DS Smith’s ‘Now and Next’ sustainability strategy outlines the company’s sustainability commitments and goals to contribute to a circular economy for the next decade. The company had achieved 11% reduction in emissions, compared to 2015 baseline.
