SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Europe’s leading packaging company DS Smith announced new partnership with Birmingham, UK-based Aquapak Polymers to develop the next generation of packaging solutions.
The partnership will work towards replacing hard-to-recycle packaging with sustainable fibre-based packaging solutions. The two firms had conducted several pilot trial runs, using combined materials such as cardboard and plastic. The companies will focus on developing practical applications to replace traditional plastic films with bio-degradable and water-soluble polymer, which in turn will improve performance and recyclability.

It will deliver greater circularity to recyclable packaging products, he added. Meantime, Mark Lapping, CEO, Aquapak Polymers noted that the new tie-up will speed up the roll out of recyclable, biodegradable packaging, in line with its commitment to eliminate plastic pollution at the source.
The efforts by the two companies will transform the sustainable packaging market and lead to significant reduction in single-use plastic pollution.
