SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European packaging major, DS Smith, announced that it has won a Gold Award from sustainability ratings agency EcoVadis. This is the fourth time that the company has won the award since it started participation. The Gold sustainability rating demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability across various business sectors.
The EcoVadis award winners are selected after thorough analysis of policies and performances by companies across four key areas- environmental management, fair business practice, labour and human rights and sustainable procurement. The third party tool benchmarks suppliers across the world. The ranking obtained by DS Smith indicates that the company managed to remain in the top 5%.
Commenting on the achievement, Wouter van Tol, Head of Sustainability, DS Smith noted that the company is extremely pleased to have won the prestigious award. Retaining the Gold Award is a challenging task, as EcoVadis includes new topics in its assessment and makes the entire assessment process more challenging, every passing year. The award reflects continued improvement in its sustainability performance and transparent reporting, he noted.
DS Smith targets to win the new Platinum Award in 2021, for which it would formulate a strong benchmark improvement plan, he added.
