SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The DS Smith employees at Trakia, Bulgaria mill, in cooperation with the DS Smith Charitable Foundation, launched a new biodiversity programme for local schoolchildren on the occasion of International Day of Biodiversity. A massive education and awareness campaign for first and second graders from two local schools was organized.

The activities included planting a garden together with their parents, building birdhouses, and placing bird feeders on trees. The DS Smith team also installed information boards providing details about birds that are native to the area and highlighting the need to protect natural environment from pollution. The participating children were gifted with t-shirt, backpack, and small personalized flowerpots with succulents to grow at home.
The project was sponsored by the DS Smith Charitable Foundation and supported by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds and the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water – Pazardzhik.
Kristina Sheyretova-Gancheva, Ecologist at DS Smith stated that it was a joint effort with great outcome. Furthermore, she thanked all colleagues and everyone else who helped the company make the event a highly successful one.
