SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith- the leading multinational packaging business announced significant investment in Austrian plants. The proposed investment of €13 million in the Margarethen am Moos and Kalsdorf bei Graz plants is expected to boost the company’s total Austrian production by almost 20%.
According to company press release, the first steps have already been initiated by harmonising the business processes of both sites. The investments in latest machinery at both the sites will boost quality, productivity and innovation capabilities. The investment is part of the company’s ambitious growth strategy in the East Europe region.

DS Smith noted that it has already installed new palletising robots and transfer carriages at its Margarethen plant. These, combined with optimisation of the production process, will deliver significant boost to its efficiency. Also, a new folder gluing machine and a high-performance die-cutter have been put into operation at the Kalsdorf facility.
In addition, the works on modernisation of the conveyor system and the expansion of the warehouses at both the sites are nearing completion.
Dieter Glawischnig, Managing Director of DS Smith Packaging Austria stated that the investments by the company are aimed at ensuring the stability of its supply chains and sustainable business continuity. The developments will further contribute to strengthen the region’s economy, he added.
