DRI Busts Gold Smuggling Racket at Indian Airport

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials busted a gold smuggling gang at Indore International Airport in India’s Central state of Madhya Pradesh. Seven people, including a woman were arrested. A total of 5.5 kilograms of gold worth around $298,000 were seized from them.

According to DRI, the passengers arrived at the airport via Air India flight from Dubai and were on their way to Mumbai via a connecting flight. Upon checking, the officials found that the passengers had hidden gold in the form of paste, covered in plastic covers, in several parts of their body and dress. The gold in the form of paste was placed inside capsules.

All the seven involved in the smuggling act were booked by the DRI under the Customs Act 1962. The DRI is currently investigating other people linked with the gang.
