SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Chemicals company Dow has announced new partnership with Indian recycling company Lucro Plastecycle Private Limited. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on responsible recycling of post-consumer plastic waste.
Under the new partnership, Lucro Plastecycle will use its trademark Plast-E-Cycle process to convert plastic waste into granules for recyclable and compostable products. The company will process Dow’s virgin resins to manufacture film structures.
Dow had recently announced its new sustainability target of collecting, reusing and recycling one million tonnes of plastics by 2030.
The new approach is aimed at reducing carbon emissions, compared to virgin PE resins. The technique will be first applied in collation shrink films, which will be later extended to other applications including shipping sacks, e-commerce bags and non-food packaging, said Bambang Candra, Asia Pacific commercial vice president, Dow packaging and specialty plastics. It could help create a viable circular system for flexible plastics, he added.
The partnership with Dow provides expertise to develop high quality, innovative and recycled-content flexible film for businesses, said Ujwal Desai, co-founder and managing director of Lucro.
