Coca-Cola to Roll Out 100% rPET Bottles in North America

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading beverage brand Coca-Cola announced that it will start rollout of 100% rPET bottles in North America. Several of its brands including Coke, Diet Coke and Coke Zero Sugar will launch a 13.2-ounce rPET bottles, initially in California, Florida and the Northeast, during the current month.

The company plans to unveil 20-ounce rPET bottles in California, New York and Texas during this month itself. It also plans to introduce 100% rPET Dasani and Smartwater water bottles in select states in March and July respectively. Furthermore, Coca-Cola will launch a 13.2-ounce fully rPET clear bottle for Sprite in select regions in February. All Sprite packaging will transition to clear packaging by the end of 2022. All the above actions will help the company achieve 20% reduction in use of new plastic within the North American region.

Alpa Sutaria, vice president and general manager of sustainability for the company’s North America operating unit noted that the introduction of the 100% rPET bottles is a clear demonstration of the company’s top priority in helping create a circular economy.

The innovation delivers the double benefit of convenience and sustainability, said the company.
