Domtar Declares Major Investment in Kingsport Community

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar Corporation ensured that its conversion of the Kingsport mill into containerboard brings recreational opportunities in the city. This has been made possible through a land swap deal between the company and the city.

According to the agreement between the two parties, the City will receive the 40-acre Cement Hill property next to the Brickyard Park property, located behind the Kingsport train station. In exchange, Domtar will receive Domtar Cloud Park, where the company plans to build a new loading area upon completion of the conversion project. Additionally, Domtar has agreed to contribute $500,000 toward relocating the memorial Scott Adams skate park located in Domtar Cloud Park.

Kingsport City Manager Chris McCartt said that the land swap has opened up a new opportunity for recreation in the community. The City is excited that the opening of the land, historically known only for its industrial use, to the public is something very special, he added.

Meantime, Charlie Floyd, a Domtar vice president and former Kingsport mill manager noted that the company has donated big parcels of land to the town for educational and recreational purposes before as well. The land swap demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to community investment, Floyd said.
