Constellium to Launch New Aluminum Solutions for Automotive Market

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Paris, France-headquartered Constellium SE announced that it will lead a research and development (R&D) project, aimed at developing innovative solutions for the automotive industry. The project, partially funded by Bpifrance, will run through 2023.

The new project titled ‘Project ISA3’ is being implemented in partnership with France-based Groupe Renault, ESI Group, Institut de Soudure and the University of Lorraine. The Euro 7 million-project targets to develop light-weight, fully recyclable and highly cost-efficient aluminum solution for the automotive market. The new solution is aimed at accelerating the transition from steel to aluminum by automobile manufacturers.

Jack Clark, senior vice president of manufacturing excellence and chief technical officer at Constellium stated that the project will advance aluminum’s position in the automotive market. The partnership explores solutions that can apply to a wide range of vehicles and deliver both environmental and economic benefits. Furthermore, this will lead to significant reduction of environmental impact of the entire automotive aluminum supply chain, he added.

The Project ISA3 will design and develop aluminum automotive doors that will be at least 15% lighter than current aluminum solutions available in the market.
