Constellium Ravenswood to Use DOE Funding to Decarbonise its Casthouses

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Constellium announced that its Ravenswood, West Virginia facility has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations to begin award negotiations for up to $75 million in funding as part of the Industrial Demonstrations Program (IDP). The investment will fund implementation of low to zero carbon technology at the facility. The primary focus will be on decarbonisation of its casthouses.

As part of the project Constellium plans to install low-emissions SmartMelt furnaces that can run on a wide range of fuels, including clean hydrogen. This will lead to a zero carbon casthouse. The proposed hands-free casting process will boost worker safety. In addition, the project is expected to ensure maximum intake of recycled scrap as feedstock.

The Ravenswood facility will build a new training and wellness center and onsite childcare facility for employees. Also, it will provide financial and technical resources for schools and universities in the region.
