New Research Details High Consumer Confusion Around Plastic Recycling
The ‘Save Plastic’ campaign highlights the importance of plastic as a valuable resource. The responsible management of plastics is essential for a sustainable way of life. The proper recycling of plastics is expected to play a key role in helping Canada reach its ambitious climate goals. The campaign targets to raise consumer awareness about the above facts on plastics.
As per estimates, plastics worth almost $8 billion are sent to landfills, which could be prevented through better collection and recycling initiatives. The recycled plastics have the potential to replace almost 60% of the plastic demand by 2050.
Bob Masterson, CEO, CIAC noted that it is the responsibility of the industry to ensure that plastics are saved responsibly, by keeping it away from landfills. All efforts must be made to make recycling more accessible for the average Canadian. Plastics play a key role in decarbonising the economy through clean energy, Masterson noted.
