A sign hangs on the gate in front of the Chico Scrap Metal facility, which says that it has stopped accepting recycling and other materials as of end-February this year. A press conference was held in front of the closed business, which was attended by former Chico Mayor Karl Ory along with others including Bob Mulholland.

The statement issued by Ory in connection with the closure said that many in the neighbourhood can now plan for a future without the dust and noise of the junkyard, after four decades of struggles. It must be noted that the business is located close to Chapman elementary School, a leading food processor and multiple residences.

Meantime, Kim Scott, owner of the facility said that the facility was below any commercial contamination. It has been scientifically proven that the operations at the facility have never impacted the school.
