The suspect was arrested near Integrated Check Post (ICP) Dawki, while he was attempting to illegally cross the International border and heading towards the Dawki main market area. The seized gold was handed over to Dawki Customs Office. The person was handed over to PS Dawki for further legal proceedings. During preliminary interrogation, he admitted that he was the carrier of gold from Sylhet district in Bangladesh to a recipient in Assam.
It must be noted that gold smuggling across the border has been rampant during recent times, despite strict steps taken by the BSF to stop such smuggling acts across the border. Recently, West Tripura Police had busted a gang of sixteen Bangladeshi nationals, arresting them from the Rajnagar area of Agartala in West Tripura, based on secret information provided by locals.
