For instance, the non-ferrous volumes reaching yards in Nordic countries are seen 10-20% below expectations.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) published the latest edition of its World Mirror on Non-Ferrous Metals. The global recycling business is gradually reviving following the prolonged holiday season, according to the report's January 2025 edition.

For example, non-ferrous volumes that reach yards in Nordic nations are estimated to be 10–20% lower than anticipated. Numerous companies in the area have been hit by the decreased volumes, tighter margins, increased operating expenses, and persistent market concerns. The Benelux region has also seen a slow start to the market. However, the UK announced a successful start to 2025 commerce.

Many companies have been forced to erect high fences and inform the local population of the necessity of doing so as a result of the new rules that forbid scrap piles outside at scrap yards located in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Additionally, a number of businesses have relocated their yards outside of the city. It is believed that small enterprises will be financially burdened by the additional investments. Furthermore, there is concern that the rule will probably be implemented nationwide.

Both the supply and demand for scrap in Mexico have decreased as a result of the tariff threat imposed by the incoming U.S. government. According to the BIR research, the proposed tariffs have caused uncertainty in the two countries' trading relationship.
