BIR Ferrous Division Plenary Session to Focus on Environmental Benefits of Recycled Steel

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): At the forthcoming BIR World Recycling Convention and Exhibition, which will take place in Valencia, Spain in May of this year, the Ferrous Division of the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) will host a plenary session.

Shane Mellor, Divisional President of Mellor Metals Limited, will preside over the meeting, which is scheduled for Monday, May 26, 2025, from 14:00 to 15:00. Building on the conversations at the Singapore session on green steel, it will address the environmental advantages of recycled steel, providing a thorough examination of sustainability in steel recycling.

Daniel Pietikaïnen, BIR Trade & Environment Policy Officer, will present throughout the event, giving an overview of the latest study that BIR and KPMG completed. The potential use of these insights in BIR's advocacy efforts will be covered.

Prof. Frank Pothen, an economics professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Jena, Germany, will then conduct a thorough study of the data in relation to worldwide research. Professor Pothen will concentrate on a number of policy suggestions that encourage recyclers and encourage the usage of steel that has been recycled.

Additionally, at the session, Rolf Willeke, Statistics Advisor at BIR Ferrous Division, will present the 16th edition of BIR's recycled steel statistics, "World Recycling in Figures."
