SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) announced that its Big River Steel mill in Osceola, Arkansas has become the first ever site to be honoured with ResponsibleSteel site certification in North America.
The certification follows the independent third-party audit of the site by SRI Quality System Registrar (SRI), which concluded that the mill met the stringent requirements of the ResponsibleSteel Standard. The rigorous audit procedures comprised gathering comprehensive materials, onsite visits and worker and stakeholder interviews.

The ResponsibleSteel Standard is based on 12 principles with a wide range of criteria covering topics including health and safety, greenhouse gas emissions, water stewardship and biodiversity, human rights, labor rights and community relations.
