Best Buy’s New Mail-In Program to Boost E-Waste Recycling

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recently launched mail-in electronics recycling program by Best Buy has provided an easier option for customers to get rid of their unwanted electronics in a responsible way. The program offers an extension to its existing in-store recycling program by targeting a wider audience.

The program allows customers to purchase prepaid boxes in two different sizes. A smaller size box, priced at $23, can hold up to 6 pounds of discarded electronics, whereas the medium-sized box, which can support up to 15 pounds of material, will be priced at $30. The boxes will have tape, instructions and a prepaid label, thus making it convenient for users. The items thus received will be either recycled or repaired.

The new program targets smaller electronic items such as cables, mice, keyboards, webcams, landline phones, robot vacuums, and CD/DVD drives. It is part of Best Buy’s previously stated goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2040.

The mail-in recycling program offers benefits to customers and the environment in several ways. Firstly, it offers a time-consuming alternative for those who may not have an easy access to a Best Buy store or those who prefer not to visit a store. It also serves as an alternative to more expensive programs.
