Artemis Gold Announced Official Opening of B.C. Blackwater Mine

It had achieved the important milestone of commercial production earlier this month, following three months of commissioning.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Vancouver, B.C.-based Artemis Gold has announced official opening of its Blackwater gold and silver mine in the Cariboo region of the central region of the province.

The openpit mine is located approximately 110 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof. It is expected to produce between 190,000 ounces and 230,000 ounces of gold during the current financial year. The mine was constructed in nearly 22 months. It had achieved the important milestone of commercial production earlier this month, following three months of commissioning.

Last Friday, B.C. Premier David Eby, provincial Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals Jagrup Brar, Indigenous leaders, and other stakeholders attended a grand opening ceremony at the mine site.

Nearly one-fourth of the 400+ workers at the Blackwater mine identify as Indigenous, and 80% of them are from British Columbia. It has 122.4 million ounces of silver and 11.7 million ounces of gold in measured and indicated resources.

Approximately 800 construction jobs and 170 operational posts will be added if the second phase of the mine construction is approved, which is expected to happen later this year.
